Seasoned Saint Spotlight – Deacon Michael Holmes

June 1, 2018

Michael HolmesIt is with great pleasure that I present to the readers of the FBBC Navigator the “Seasoned Saint” for the Month of June 2018, my “partner,” Deacon Michael Holmes. Deacon Holmes was asked a series of questions and his replies are delineated as follows. “I was born in Perry, GA but grew up in Unadilla, GA. My wife Linda Williams Holmes and I celebrated 35 years of marriage on May 21. We have one child, Lindsey. My hobbies include playing basketball (still), golf, and reading. I came to Warner Robins as a co-op student from Albany State University working at Robins Air Force Base. I spent the bulk of my career working in Finance and retired as Budget Officer overseeing a $6 billion budget in January 2016. After being invited to FBBC in 1985 by my best friend, Henry Hopson, my wife and I joined this wonderful family of believers.

Thereafter I became treasurer, wanting to share my financial talents to enrich God’s resources at ‘The Ship.’ Pastor Reid however taught me a valuable lesson about the difference in God’s financial theology and man’s; even when it doesn’t make sense trust in God’s sovereignty. After trying to avoid and resist the calling to be a Christian Enrichment Facilitator, God took me on an odyssey of discovery that culminated in a narrowly averted car accident in Biloxi, MS.

As John 15:16 clearly states God chose us to be productive we just have to avail ourselves to His will. My desire from that point was to please God through the gifts and talents that He blessed me with. As God blesses us we must “pass the blessings on to others.” We are to “pay it forward” in homage to those who pave the way for us. As my favorite scripture says Philippians 4:10-14, I have learned to be grateful in any situation and trust God to give me the strength to face anything.”
