Seasoned Saint Spotlight – Ben Harris

August 1, 2018

This month’s honoree and my family have a special “bond.” – He invited us to visit Fellowship over 35 years ago and we joined. Our “Seasoned Saint” for the month of August is Benjamin (Ben) Harris who was born in Grady County (Pelham, Georgia) on January 22, 1948. His spouse is Barbara J. Harris. They have been married for a total of 35 years and have six children: Daphne, Jeffrey, Xavier (deceased), Lisa, Ben Jr., and Demetria.

Ben’s hobbies are fishing and hunting, along with gardening and lawn care. He received a B.S. Degree in Vocational Agriculture from Fort Valley State College in 1971. He used his educational training at 3 different schools in Georgia before taking a job with Continental Can Company where he served successfully for 18 years before the plant closed. Ben and Barbara became members of Fellowship under the leadership of Pastor Willie and Glory Reid. Ben was a Sunday school teacher for the young boys, bus driver, yard man (cut grass and performed other du-ties), and the chairman of the board of directories.

Ben stated that the most important lesson he has learned is to love God and mankind. He would like to be remembered as a person that was willing to be a servant of God and mankind and a husband and father that loved his wife and all his children.

His message” (words of wisdom) to Generations X, Y and Z is to seek God early in life as directed by godly parents and godly teach-ings from men of God like Pastor Tolan Morgan.

Ben’s “special” scripture is Psalm 32:8, “I (GOD) will instruct thee and teach thee in the way thou shalt go: I (GOD) will guide thee with mine eye. “ His closing quote, “I truly thank God for Jesus Christ and the Holy Spirit for my life on this earth.”
