Domestic Violence & Abuse Awareness

October 1, 2022

We Have the Victory in Christ

Since 1987 October has been designated as Domestic Violence Awareness Month. The entire month shines a spotlight on a serious and sensitive illness facing our Nation. Abuse of any kind is unacceptable, but it has silently woven itself into the fabric of our Nation. The statistics are alarming. But regardless of how big the problem, we must not overlook, HOW BIG IS OUR GOD. In Him we have The Victory!

Attorney Tomieka R. Daniel

Attorney Tomieka R. Daniel, Deputy Director, Georgia Legal Services Program is acknowledged as an expert in the area of domestic violence. According to Attorney Daniel, “domestic, violence is an epidemic and it is important that we share how it affects our community.” We often think that the violent acts perpetrated upon our community are initiated by strangers who forced their way into our home – our domain. However, the definition of domestic violence indicates it is “a pattern of abusive behavior in any relationship that is used by one partner to gain or maintain power and control over another intimate partner.” Key words FBBC Family, “relationship, partner, intimate partner.” The perpetrator and victim are not strangers. And because domestic violence knows no gender, age, race, religion, or economic status; the victim/perpetrator could be my father, mother, sister, brother, son, daughter … or me. Abuse of this type in our Nation is so personal until it often goes unreported. The Me Too movement has begun to replace victims unwarranted feelings of guilt and shame with power and courage. It has not and will not be easy, but We Have the Victory in Christ.

Now for the better news!

Many things considered science fiction or impossible a few years ago is now a reality. The impossible is now possible.

The ability to eradicate domestic violence and all forms of abuse from our society should be removed from the “list of impossibility” and placed at the top of the “possible list.” Deeper and farther exploration of our oceans and universe is growing at a pace that was unimaginable a few years ago. Scientist recently discovered that our universe may be 2 billion years younger than originally thought. Self-driving cars and packages delivered by drones is a reality. Babies – human babies – are being born without the intimacy of a man and woman. The sperm from a man, an egg from a woman and a surrogate mother to carry the child until birth is all that is required.

I am not surprised by these amazing advancements in all areas of our society. God told us it would happen.

And the Lord said, “Behold, they are one people, and they have all one language, and this is only the beginning of what they will do. And nothing that they propose to do will now be impossible for them. Gen 11:6 ESV

And this is only the beginning of what they will do. Domestic violence and all forms of abuse will one
day be history because we have the Victory in Christ!
