CHIEF OF STAFF
JOB DESCRIPTION
JOB TITLE: Chief of Staff
EMPLOYER: Fellowship Bible Baptist Church
REPORTS TO: Senior Pastor and Board of Directors
SALARY RANGE: Starting at $50,000
EFFECTIVE DATE: 4/1/2023
SUMMARY: This position is responsible for overseeing the day-to-day business and ministry operations of the Church; ensuring the implementation of the vision given by the Senior Pastor providing support and empowerment to the ministry departments and team leaders.
DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES:
- Assists in the development and ensuring implementation of the strategic plan within the
designated time.
- Acts as the primary administrative contact with the church leadership.
- Reviews the development of ministries, programs, and events to ensure compliance with church bylaws and current policies, procedures, and processes, under the direction of the Senior Pastor.
- Provides under the direction of the Senior Pastor.
- Guidance and support, when needed, in the interpretation of church policies.
- Translates the strategic plan into the annual staff-operating plan.
- Partners with the Board of Directors to review, revise, or develop policies, procedures, and processes consistent with church bylaws and provides recommendations based upon current church practices.
- Ensures departmental and individual goals/priorities match church-wide goals and priorities.
- Ensures the organizational structure aligns with the staff tactical plan.
- Provides administrative, operational, finance, and facilities support.
- Collaborates with CFO, administration, and management of the budget to ensure strategic alignment as approved by the Senior Pastor and the BOD.
- Collaborates with the BOD members to determine and prioritize business strategies.
- Identifies needed process with CFO and procedures to improve the effectiveness and efficiency of the staff.
- Facilitates staff meetings and leadership training sessions as needed.
- Assumes leadership and management on high-profile projects.
- Leads the hiring and training of personnel in collaboration with the Senior Pastor and Human Resource team.
- Interacts with ministry directors, volunteers, and church members.
- Actively participates in church services, activities, events, and ministries.
- Participates in the long-term spiritual and financial health of the Church.
- Attends church leadership and stewardship meetings.
- Assists with weekend church activities and special projects as required or directed by the Senior Pastor.
- Performs other related duties as assigned by Senior Pastor or BOD.
SUPERVISORY RESPONSIBILITIES:
- Manages all departments.
- Fulfills supervisory responsibilities in accordance with the organization’s policies and applicable laws.
- Responsibilities include interviewing, hiring recommendations, and training employees; planning, assigning, and directing work; appraising performance; rewarding and disciplining employees; addressing complaints and resolving problems.
QUALIFICATIONS:
- Bachelor’s Degree (BA) from four-year college or university, or one to two years of related experience and/or training, or equivalent combination of education and experience. Master’s degree is a plus.
- Computer skills required: Accounting Software (QuickBooks); Database Software (Access); Development Software; Internet Software; Manufacturing Software; Payroll Systems; Spreadsheet Software (Excel); Contract Management Systems; Design Software; Human Resource Systems; Inventory Software; Order Processing Systems; Project Management Software; Word Processing Software (Word); Electronic Mail Software (Outlook); Presentation software (PowerPoint); and Publisher software.
- Other skills required:
- Ability to read, analyze, and interpret the most complex documents. Ability to respond effectively to the most sensitive inquiries or complaints. Ability to write speeches and articles using original or innovative techniques or style. Ability to make effective and persuasive speeches and presentations on controversial or complex topics to top management, public groups, and/or boards of directors.
- Years of successful business development, corporate strategy, and executive management experience in for-profit or non-profit sector.
- Experience with strategic planning development.
- Demonstrates excellent oral and written communication skills.
- Proficient with Microsoft Office Suite, Database systems and internet software.
- Excellent organizational skills.
- Strong analytical abilities.
- Creative and innovative thinking and problem resolution.
