The Hayiya Dance Theatre mission is to educate, entertain and engage the community by providing opportunity for culture arts, enrichment and exposure. Under the leadership of the Artistic Director and Founder Pilar Wilder Lowder, the Hayiya Dance Theatre specializes in Authentic and Progressive West African dance of Diaspora. This is one of the best dance studios around. This is a professional dance and percussion ensemble comprised on accomplished women and men, boys and girls. This studio was organized on the campus of Wesleyan College in August 1997 as a dance club. Now it is 22 seasons strong and is Middle Georgia’s oldest West African Dance Ensemble. This is such an amazing accomplishment and a blessing. Mrs. Lowden is an outstanding dance director and all of her performances are so amazing and pleasing to watch. The Hayiya Dance Theatre is truly the best of the best.
In 2018, it was voted Best of the Dance Studios in Macon by the Macon telegraph readers. The Hayiya Dance Theatre was also rewarded a grant by the International Association of Blacks in Dance in 2017.
