The Importance of Fathers in Modern Day Society

Train up a child in the way he should go; even when he is old he will not depart from it. ~ Proverbs 22:6
CBS News this morning reported that reve-nue from virtual reality technology could reach $120 billion by 2020. Virtual reality technology is computer technology that repli-cates an environment, real or imagined, and simulates a user’s physical presence and environment to allow for user interaction. Translation – it is the 21st Century version of 3D movies. The difference is this technology puts the user – simulation – in the movie, city, building or video game and allows the user to interact with the environment. Is it real or is it Memorex?
Society has always been a moving target. And today ’s modern society, powered in part by social media, is moving at light speed and establishing a new normal as it goes. With all this moving and shaking going on, the question becomes who’s minding the store? Have we begun to operate in a virtual reality world and lost track of what is real? The role of fathers in modern society has never been more important when it comes to helping our family and especially our children navigate through and embrace change without compromising the values we learn from the Word of God.
Our children of today will fill the ranks of tomorrow’s society. The values they will bring with them have already begun to take root. Fathers, as head of the household, stand at ground zero teaching and defending the family against principles and ideals that stray away from sound doctrine. The moral standard and Christian values we embrace from scripture do not change with advances in technology or scientific discoveries.
However, human nature has a tendency to move away from God as society advances. The story of the Tower of Babel is just one of the Bible’s examples of man deciding to substitute his knowledge in the place of God’s will. They said, “Come, let us build for ourselves a city, and a tower whose top will reach into heaven, and let us make for ourselves a name, otherwise we will be scattered abroad over the face of the whole earth.” Gen. 11:4. And the Lord said, “Behold, they are one people, and they have all one language, and this is only the be-ginning of what they will do. And nothing that they propose to do will now be impossible for them. Gen. 11:6. Because he had the knowledge and ability, man decided to stay in one location and disregard God’s di-rective to “replenish the earth”. That society eventually came to ruin.
An architect will tell you that a building that is not constructed on a solid foundation is destined for ruin. A society built on anything other than the Word of God is also destined for ruin. Therefore, it is critical that Fathers hold the line on truth. What then is truth? Jesus answered, “I am the way and the truth and the life. No one comes to the Father except through me. John 14:6.
Fathers are important to modern day society because we have been given the key to a successful society. Train up a child in the way he should go; even when he is old he will not depart from it.
