Through the inspiration of the Holy Spirit, the Lord God Almighty led a young preacher named Willie L. Reid, Sr. from Eatonton, Georgia to establish a place of worship. He wanted to establish a place where the lost could go to seek God’s saving grace. After two weeks of searching, he found Building 10 in Buzzell Village on Watson Boulevard in Warner Robins, GA. On the second Sunday in February 1980, the first church service was held there. Within a six month period the new congregation outgrew that building and had to move into the larger Building 24 in Buzzell Village.
In 1981, the small congregation purchased 10 acres of land on Dunbar Road and a church bus. All of this was done through tithes, offerings and the many sacrifices of the 25 members at the time. The members knew that without faith, it is impossible to please God and that faith without works is dead. In June of 1982 construction began on a new 275-seat sanctuary. On the first Sunday in May of 1983, Pastor Reid and his 30 faithful members occupied their new sanctuary. It was a glorious time, because God had blessed the church family to do what many said couldn’t be done. An educational wing was added in 1984.During 1987, the church family began to grow rapidly. As the membership grew numerically and spiritually, God gave Pastor Reid the vision to expand the various ministries of the church in order to meet the needs of the people. It was apparent that more space was needed to facilitate church growth.
In 1988, plans were made to build a larger sanctuary for the salvation of souls. On the second Sunday in June 1988, a ground-breaking ceremony marked the spot and the project was underway to erect this new sanctuary. Everyone made tremendous sacrifices to build the new sanctuary. In October 1992, the Fellowship Bible Baptist Church family entered the new sanctuary without a mortgage! God’s sustaining power had once again been demonstrated in the lives of the Fellowship family. In September 1993, Fellowship Bible Baptist Church opened a Christian Academy. The Academy offered programs for K-3 through 8th grade. In November 1994, Fellowship Bible Baptist Church purchased the Thomas Elementary School building at 801 Watson Boulevard. The faculty and students moved into the building in December 1994. The school used the ABEKA curriculum. The students prospered and outscored their peers on all standardized tests, but because of a lack of community support the school was closed in 1998.
The building was sold to the City of Warner Robins in 2002 and is now the site of the new Macon State College campus. In March 1998, Fellowship Bible Baptist Church purchased forty-eight acres of land across the street from our current sanctuary. Included with the property was a small house. The house was renovated and dedicated to the memory of Henecia Hopson in October of 2002. The Hopson House is used to host small group meetings. The mortgage for this land was paid off in May of 2001. It is on this land that we will build our new worship center. In October of 2002, ground was broken on a new Fellowship Hall behind our current worship center. It was completed in August of 2004 and ribbon cutting ceremony held in September of the same year. The Fellowship Hall includes a state of the art kitchen, elegant pastoral suite and conference room, and office space for all of the church staff. The dining hall can seat up to 220 people. Any of the rooms in the Fellowship Hall can also be used as overflow seating for the sanctuary with the new video distribution system that was installed. On January 16, 2011 another milestone was completed and we entered into our beautiful, new dome sanctuary. This was a major sacrifice and a great accomplishment for the entire church body. The devil was once again defeated, and God got the glory! In over 30 years the Fellowship family has grown from 2 members to well over 3,000 members. We strive to meet the needs of those within our community, and provide a place where everyone can come and worship our Savior Jesus Christ. Though we have accomplished much, our work has only just begun.
